The fair price for milk is an increasingly higher price. This product is experiencing one of the strongest inflations, with a 13% increase in supermarkets. The price of milk will soon exceed 1 euro.
More expensive milk on the shelves: 1 euro per liter to better remunerate breeders. An increase that should soon become a reality. Consumers are ready to put their hands in their wallets. “People don’t make a living working seven days a week”says a customer. “If the distribution of the margin is correct, it seems satisfactory to me for the producers”adds a consumer. To the origin of this increase, the increase in the price paid by the giant Lactalis to its breeders, from 33 to 49 cents per liter of milk.
For producer Joël Barthe, this revaluation is a relief. “It’s a breath of fresh air, we were really waiting for it and it had to arrive as soon as possible”, he says. To finance this price increase, Lactalis is requesting a 15% increase from large retailers, but will the increase be visible on the shelves? Yes, but not necessarily immediately, according to Olivier Dauvers, retail specialist. However, on Friday October 21, some announced that they had already raised the price of their private label in order to be able to increase their breeders.
