Mustapha Ait Ouaret, a 55-year-old Franco-Algerian was sentenced on Friday October 21 to thirty years in prison for having killed and then dismembered a woman at the end of 2017. His brother, Salah Ait Ouaret, whom he had accused of being the murderer before confessing at the hearing, was acquitted by the Seine-Saint Assize Court -Denis.

In its verdict, the court matched the thirty years of criminal imprisonment imposed on Mustapha Ait Ouaret with a twenty-year prison term. The accused “couldn’t think that ingesting 52 pills”subtly administered to this woman, “would only result in the victim falling asleep”she reasoned, saying that he “meant well” to take his life. The court followed the requisitions of Advocate General Bertrand Macle who, earlier in the day, had pointed the finger at the “Machiavellianism” and the “perversity” of the accused. In a rare twist, Mustapha Ait Ouaret confessed on Monday to having killed his “best friend”after having accused for almost five years his junior, 43 years old. Placed in pre-trial detention until then, Salah Ait Ouaret was released in stride. After these confessions and for lack of material evidence, the court acquitted him, he accepted this decision prostrate, his head in his shoulders and visibly moved.
