Since Monday, October 17, Russia has attacked strategic locations in Ukraine with drones. It retaliates against the Ukrainian army, which has been using these same devices for months.

The Russian Ministry of Defense released a video of a Ukrainian tank in the sights of a drone. Also targeted by these explosive-laden drones are a radar system and a transport vehicle. Kamikaze drones, combat drones or observation drones, these devices play a strategic role in the war between Russia and Ukraine. Both sides use these drones, which do not require sending men to locate and which are less expensive than missiles or fighter planes.

“We are on systems that will cost up to ten times less, which are relatively discreet”, explains Xavier Tytelman, defense consultant. During the week, the Russian army hit several cities with drones bought from Iran. Russia, the world’s second largest military power, had no long-range drones and refuses to admit the Iranian origin of the drones. Since the beginning of the conflict, Ukraine has gained the advantage thanks to Turkish combat drones. It also receives suicide drones from the United States and the US Air Force is said to be developing drones adapted to Ukraine’s needs.
