In 2021, Julien Cohen announced his departure fromDeal done, after four fine years of colorful auctions. At the time, the buyer with blue glasses had justified this choice by a lack of free time for him and his wife Karine. “During these four and a half years, I went to bed early, I had a somewhat complicated social life for my wife because it takes a lot of energy to shoot Deal done. And this energy, I put it on the set at the expense of a lot of other things : no restaurants, no evening outings…“, he explained.
Since then, Julien Cohen has more room to take care of his personal but also professional projects. For example, he is preparing to launch a magazine dedicated to flea markets and at the same time, he is developing a new program for television without any details having yet been revealed. In the midst of all this, the object lover had the opportunity to grant an interview to Jordan de Luxe for Entertainment TV. And he didn’t escape the question about the money, the one he won with Deal done. But against all expectations, the experience will not have been the most fruitful for Julien Cohen. Indeed, he explains that he finally spent more than he filled his pockets.
Julien Cohen in deficit at the time ofDeal done
“Before we were all paid the same price: 1,000 euros per person per dayfor 26 objects or 38 euros per object to take the risk of buying an object“, he detailed. In total, the sum appears comfortable but Julien Cohen brings a precision of size: “That’s 300,000 euros, versus 1.2 million spent and versus 500,000 unsellable today because I bought them too expensive“.
Unfortunately, Julien Cohen had a hard time depriving himself of buying, especially since he was more or less obliged to do so. “We can’t not buy because if we don’t buy, we don’t come back. We’re not going to pay people to do nothing, especially when they don’t animate more. It’s an induced rule, it’s not on the contract“, he said. Despite everything, the entrepreneur has no regrets about this great adventure.
