Montreal mayoral candidates are making well-meaning but costly campaign promises.
Consider the following thought, which might help taxpayers whose municipal and school taxes are already heavily high.
Currently, service centers / school boards and municipalities operate in parallel; there does not seem to be any coordination. Sometimes there is unnecessary and costly duplication of services.
For example, with regard to the sharing of sports facilities, municipalities should have the right to manage school buildings to ensure accessibility of gymnasiums when many of them are closed during school holidays. In addition, most schools are generally only operated 200 days per year.
Sports are an essential part of education; we need to make all of these facilities accessible throughout the year, which would benefit the students and indeed the whole community.
As the Romans said: “ Mens sana in corpore sano ” (A healthy mind in a healthy body).
