The British Prime Minister lasted only 45 days. Liz Truss resigned on the afternoon of Thursday, October 20. A look back at his incredible short stay.
This is the mandate the most short of British history. Liz Truss, First Minister, will have resigned after only 45 days. “Given the situation, I cannot fulfill the mandate for which I was elected by the Conservative party. I have spoken to his majesty the king to notify him that I am resigning”she said Thursday, October 20. His resignation does not really surprise the English, some are even harsh towards him. “She had to go, I think she should never have been prime minister. It’s the worst we’ve ever had”thinks an Englishman.
Everything had however started well on September 6 when Queen Elizabeth II asked him to form a government. Very quickly, everything went off the rails, especially when the Minister of Finance announced a plan for a massive reduction in taxes financed by the debt. This causes panic City and the British currency collapses. Liz Truss backtracked and fired his minister. She seems weakened and has lost her way. Then his interior minister resigned. His own party is calling for his resignation. The English want new elections.
