“Teams have achieved feats, we say to ourselves why not us now”, launches Axel. This young player from the Basse-Goulaine club watched the draw for the 7th round of the Coupe de France,
this Wednesday. Like many other people he would have liked to come across a Ligue 2 clubbut facing Bellevue which is in the same championship as his club, he hopes to go further in the adventure.
Don’t get carried away too quickly
He has been immersed in the world of football since he was 8 years old, so seeing his club appear on the draw table leaves a strange feeling. “You don’t really realize at first, he details. It’s the Cup, it’s played over a match so everything is possible”. Dressed in a black jacket, embroidered with the logo of AC Basse-Goulaine, the youngster wants to dream but knows that this match is not easy. “We go stay focused on the championship for the moment”tempers the latter.
However, in the league, AC Basse-Goulaine players defeated JSC Bellevue, the derby won 1-0 last September. The messages have not stopped flowing on the group chat of the team, but the first to have drawn after the draw is the coach. “I told them to stay focused on the next game, don’t imagine too many things for the moment”, slips Olivier Quint. The former Nantes professional footballer keeps a cool head.
The disappointment of playing away
He also said he was disappointed not to host the Coupe de France match. “For the people of the club, the volunteers the licensees it would have been a great party__, but the draw decided otherwise so we’ll go with it”, regrets the latter. Especially since there will probably be a lot of people on October 30 in the stands. “I know the fans will be there to support us”reassures Olivier Quint.
“There is pride, now we have the opportunity to go further. Even if it will be difficult to qualify there, we have a chance to mark the history of the club a little more”, abounds the coach. Many are impressed by this development. Under his cap, with a mischievous look and a smirk, Philippe has spent more than 30 years in the club: “Before we played against the B teams of the local clubsbut today we are in the seventh round of the Coupe de France, it’s beautiful!”
