The emotion is very strong in Calais after the death of 27 migrants off Calais (Pas-de-Calais) while trying to reach England on Wednesday 24 November. A crisis meeting around the Prime Minister was held the day after the tragedy to try to avoid these shipwrecks.
The sinking of 27 migrants on Wednesday November 24 off Calais (Pas-de-Calais) moves the entire population. The phenomenon is not new : thirty years that the city lives at the rate of perilous attempts to reach England. The tragedy, however, did not discourage migrants. In the aftermath of the tragedy, a group of around sixty people tried to take to the sea, before being taken to accommodation centers.
The images are repeated and call out to Calais residents. “We don’t have the impression that things are moving. We cannot leave these people in this distress “, explains a resident. For the associations that come to the aid of migrants, this is too much drama. “It’s horrible. You are walking with children and you see bodies along the beach “, deplores Jean-Claude Lenoir, president of the association Salam. In Calais, Thursday evening, two meditation ceremonies are planned.
