schools, public transport… Update on the situation in Hauts-de-France

At the door of his primary school, Tuesday, October 18, the director welcomed in person students and their parents. He announced the news in the morning: there will be no canteen at noon. Parents need to get organized. Picnics will also be prohibited. The return home will be mandatory. “When we work, it’s true that not having a canteen, I pity the parents, it’s a bit of a hassle”confides a mother of a student.

“As we are in solidarity with the demonstrators, we manage. In our family, we think that salary increases are for everyone”, says another mother of a student. However, the disturbances were not significant everywhere. In some schools, no teachers went on strike. The situation was however more complicated at Valenciennes station (Hauts-de-France). In the region, only one out of three TER trains circulates, according to the SNCF. TGVs are also disrupted. As for public transport, in Lille (Nord), the two tram lines are impacted on Tuesday, but the metros and buses run normally.
