“Au Revoir”: a sports documentary retracing the career of a “wakeboard” champion

Estrien by adoption Raphaël Derome looks back on his victorious career, as part of the sports documentary “Au Revoir”, which was launched with great fanfare today on all digital platforms.

This feature film was also a way to introduce the “wakeboard” to a wider audience.

“For me, it was important to leave at my best. It was a challenge I had given myself since I was young. I didn’t want to leave, because my sponsors or the industry told me it was over. […] I felt it was the right time, ”explained from the outset the one who practiced this sport for fifteen years.

The 30-year-old athlete, who now lives in Estrie, was named the best wakeboarder of the decade in 2020. He looks back on his many exploits in the internationally acclaimed sports documentary “Au Revoir”. The feature film has won numerous awards at festivals, such as the BendFilm Festival and the Newport Beach Film Festival.

In addition to revisiting the prowess of Raphaël Derome, this documentary explores several themes, such as the family dynamics of the Derome clan. Raphaël’s father is a former water ski athlete, and his brother, Olivier, is also a professional wakeboarder. The competition between the two brothers sometimes created a certain rivalry.

The last performance of the documentary will take place this Friday, at the Musée de la Civilization de Québec.

Raphaël Derome is now considering his future with a good eye, he who will focus on construction projects with his father. “But it remains that I will always be a ‘wakeboarder’ deep inside me, that’s for sure,” admitted the world champion.
