The National Assembly unanimously adopted on Thursday the bill intended to upgrade the training of midwives. It was worn by the deputy of Gard Annie Chapelier. “On this day of fight against violence against women, the National Assembly sheds light on a profession of hitherto minimized importance, the victim of gender disregard because it is almost exclusively female. “rejoices the member in a press release. “This text will allow reaffirm the medical nature of the profession while improving the learning and practice conditions for midwives throughout their careers. Each year, 23,400 midwives take care of some 750,000 women who give birth. “
The bill is thus made up of five major articles for the development of the profession:
- Article 1 completes the university integration of training, specifying that this must be done as a priority via a UFR of Health or, failing that, within one of the university components.
- Article 1 bis establishes the status of university internship supervisor in order to allow in particular the development of outpatient, liberal or even birth center internships.
- Article 2 includes a review of all training, first and second cycles, as well as the establishment of a third cycle of studies, in the form of a 6th year of studies.
- Article 4 aims to recognize the activity of midwifery as an activity of medical practice within the NAF and PCS nomenclatures of INSEE, which classify midwives with nurses or in the category of “intermediate professions” since 1982.
The bill must now be sent to the Senate.
