An intense social and political week is about to begin on Sunday 16 October. The extent of the mobilization on Tuesday, the sectors that will be affected and the government’s responses are particularly awaited.

Ten days after the start of tensions over fuel, many motorists are getting impatient. The blocking of refineries is however far from over and could be reinforced next week by major social movements. The CGT, FO, Solidaires and FSU are calling for a strike on Tuesday, October 18. In addition to nuclear power plants, nurseries, private clinics or even the public service should follow. “There are people who are suffering, and for these people, incomes must be rebalanced”explains a man. “The right to strike is important. It bothers a lot of people in a somewhat undifferentiated way, but it’s important to be able to express yourself in this way”abounds a woman.

Conversely, others can no longer bear the increasing movements, especially as the holidays approach. The CGT and Sud-Rail railway workers have already warned that the movement could last. “I find that it is a lot of constraints for a small part of the population”says a passerby. “There may be the right to strike, but there is the right to vacation, which risks being seriously amputated in the coming days”laments another.
