F1 continues its experimentation. The format of sprint races will be retained, and even extended from the 2023 season, announced the organization of the World Championship on Tuesday September 27. Next season, they will be twice as numerous, going from three to six. The circuits concerned by these appointments have not yet been confirmed.

In 2022, the tracks of Imola, Red Bull Ring and Interlagos have been chosen to be the scene of these Saturday sprint races, a format shortened to 100 kilometers taking place on Saturday afternoon, the day before the Grand Prix. , to determine the starting grid.

With these more condensed races, F1 hopes to reach a younger audience, and reinvigorate Grand Prix weekends. The scale of these events had already been upgraded this season offering points counting for the general classification to the first eight (from eight to one point), instead of the first three when it was introduced in 2021.
