The striker of the France team was found guilty of complicity in an attempt to blackmail his former teammate Mathieu Valbuena.
The Versailles court on Thursday delivered its judgment on the “sextape” case. Karim Benzema was notably sentenced to a 12-month suspended prison sentence, a sentence that goes beyond the requisitions of the prosecution. He is reproached for having “personally involved in maneuvers, at the cost of subterfuge.” “We condemn to a severe, unjust sentence, without proof, we are quite stunned by this judgment”, reacted one of his lawyers, Sylvain Cormier.
However, the judgment will have no impact on the presence of the Real Madrid striker in the France team, said FFF president Noël Le Graët, ensuring that the sanction “didn’t change anything” and that Karim Benzema remained “selectable”. Not present at the court, the latter announced his intention to appeal the judgment.
