104 Loire municipalities under surveillance

It’s here death of two swans on the banks of the Loire, in the town of Chambéon, which was the trigger. After tests, the H5N1 avian influenza virus was detected in these two wild animals. The analyzes were confirmed last Wednesday, October 12.

So for prevent the spread of this virusthe Loire prefecture decided to set up this Friday, October 14 a temporary control zone where there is 104 municipalities of the Loire.
They are located about 20 kilometers around the place where the two swans were discovered.

Report in case of death of a bird

This decree imposes a few rules and calls for vigilance at the same time for individuals who have chickens and / or birds at home, hunters and professional breeders:

  1. All poultry, including backyard poultry and any other captive birds must be kept indoors or under netting at all times. Their water and food must also be protected.
  2. Reporting of any bird mortality to the departmental directorate for the protection of populations, the French office for biodiversity or the hunting federation.
  3. More regular checks on farms with more than 250 birds.

The Loire prefecture can stop the establishment of this temporary control zone in 21 days if there is no new appearance of this virus in free wild birds in the meantime.
