Explosion of the Crimean bridge: a Russian symbol attacked

This is a major blow to one of the emblems of the Russian presence in Ukraine. A bridge linking Russia to the Crimean peninsula was hit on Saturday, October 8. Two of the four lanes of traffic fell into the water. On the high lane, tanks carrying fuel caught fire. At least three people lost their lives. The Russian investigators dispatched to the scene evoke an attack organized with a truck bomb.

For Vladimir Putin, this bridge is the symbol of his reconquest of Ukraine. In 2014, Crimea, Ukrainian territory, was annexed by Moscow. Putin immediately launched the construction of this strategic axis, before inaugurating it himself four years later. Without this bridge, it would be difficult for Russia to transport military equipment and fuel as close as possible to the southern front. Remained silent this Saturday, the Russian president signed a special decree strengthening access controls to the bridge.
