For 400 years, an exceptional school has been training luthiers from all over the world to Mirecourtin the Vosges. A skill taught to 12 students each year.

Precise gestures that make the prestige of this exceptional school. Every year, enthusiasts from all over the world come to train in French violin making at Mirecourtin the Vosges. At 20, Yohann Lee traveled from Seoul (South Korea). “It was one of my dreams, to choose a profession. After obtaining this diploma, there is a chance of being hired by well-known luthiers in France, all over the world”says the student.

To Mirecourtviolins have been made for four centuries using homemade tools. “They themselves forged the blades, they sharpened them with a grindstone, then with a stone, and they also made the handles”illustrates Étienne Bellanger, teacher of lutherie, about the tool “typical and emblematic of Mirecurtienne violin making”. A know-how taught to 12 students each year, out of a hundred candidates. The selection is made on file. The violin has always resounded in the streets of Mirecourt, and is the pride of the inhabitants.
