In schools, it’s Taste Week, Tuesday 11 October. It is dedicated to opening the little ones to cooking and nutrition. Report in a primary school in Tours, in Indre-et-Loire, where the challenge was to make vegetables appetizing.

In a primary school in Tours (Indre et Loire)a vegetarian menu as well as a meat menu are offered. The green beans are organic, and the roast is red label. For this week of taste, the canteen has put the small dishes in the big ones. Vegetables, camembert, yogurt: as many products as possible come from short circuits. While some are finishing their meal, others are getting ready for their cooking class. Naming vegetables, recognizing their flavors: the workshop contributes to taste education.

“There are a lot of children who still need to be able to see the food and work on it, and then learn a lot of cooking techniques. There’s a lot of fine motor skills to do, there’s a lot of vocabulary too”explains Sylvie Fouchereau, teacher. Making vegetables appetizing is the other goal of these initiations to taste, to fight against the scourge of junk food.
