Shortly after, the Service de police de la Ville de Montréal (SPVM) declared that it was a suspicious death, traces of violence having been noted on the body. In the afternoon, the authorities confirmed that it was a murder, the 29th homicide to occur on the island of Montreal since the beginning of the year.
The police were notified by a call made shortly after midnight to the 911 telephone exchange to assist a man in a multi-apartment building, located near the intersection of Montclair and Fielding avenues.
Upon arrival, police found the 51-year-old man unresponsive. His death was pronounced shortly thereafter. A security perimeter was erected to allow investigators to comb the scene.
At the end of the night, the SPVM remained unable to establish a hypothesis to explain what had led to the death of the individual. She did not know if he was known to police circles.
No arrests had been made.
The sector is mainly residential, but there are also some commercial establishments.
