Follow the courses of the University of Rennes, while being a student in Font-Romeu. It is now possible. Since this start of the school year, the university complex has acquired of a connected Campus. The objective is to allow students who could not move of follow their course remotely. It is the first connected Campus in the Pyrénées-Orientales, there are already 89 at the national level.
16 young people enrolled in this Connected Campus
The choice of Font-Romeu was not made at random. Theite is renowned for its training of young athletes. The college/high school already supports 99 high-level athletes, 20 for the university. The problem is that so far only courses related to sport (Staps) are offered after the baccalaureate in this town in the Pyrenees. The idea of the community of communes of Font-Romeau at the origin of the project is to expand the offer.
At the moment, 16 young people are enrolled in this Connected Campus, half of whom are high-level athletes. This is the case of Pierre Largeron. He just started a license “Economic and social administration” at the University of Rennes 2. “After high school years here, I really wanted to stay and continue swimming at Font Romeu. Staps was not a route that interested me. So when I heard about the Connected Campus, I said to myself: is perfect !”.”
Remote lessons, but compulsory attendance
To follow his degree, Pierre receives his courses at the beginning of each semester. Even if everything is remote, he must still come to this connected Campus every week and work there for at least 12 hours. It also benefits fromon-site tutoring. “It forces us to work. When we are at home, we are sometimes caught by the phone. There, we are like in a classroom. We see the others working. It motivates”.
For the moment, the Connected Campus is limited to an Algeco installed behind the university building. But the site must grow in importance and move in the next few years to the old boarding school of the high school being rehabilitated.
