The government has launched a consent awareness campaign to address sexual and gender-based violence in universities. The annual budget dedicated to prevention will be doubled.
On Saturday October 8, Sylvie Retailleau, Minister of Higher Education and Research, unveiled new measures to combat sexual and gender-based violence in universities. The annual budget dedicated to prevention will be doubled, from 1.7 million to 3.5 million euros per year. The objective is to increase the number of people trained and to strengthen listening mechanisms within university establishments.
For the first time, a consent awareness campaign is also launched. In all institutions of higher education, posters with the slogan “No yes, it’s forbidden” will be put up. In 2020, 140,000 people were affected by an assault or attempted assault, i.e. 4% of the student population.
