The Prime Minister and 15 members of the government are on an official visit to Algiers (Algeria) on Sunday October 9. Several issues will be addressed, including the energy issue, the importance of which can be measured by the number of French officials on the move. “The symbolic significance is very strong. This trip comes very shortly after Emmanuel Macron’s visit. We had to maintain the momentum after years of tension. And for that we needed 15 ministers”explains Astrid Mezmorian, live from Algiers.

“We must show Algeria that it is an energy partner. In the long term, France will have to replace Russian gas”, adds Astrid Mezmorian. Algerian gas could serve as an alternative. But there are also obstacles to overcome. “Algeria did not appreciate that France halved the number of visas granted to Algerians. For its part, France criticizes Algeria for not fully playing the game in the fight against immigration”concludes the journalist.
