(Lagos) Seventy-six people died in the sinking of their boat on Friday in Anambra State, southeastern Nigeria, Nigerian President Muhammadu Buhari announced on Sunday.

Some 85 people were on board the overloaded boat which was traveling on the Niger River. Anambra is one of Nigeria’s 29 states, out of 36, devastated by heavy flooding since the start of the rainy season.
