It’s Halloween before time this weekend in Quebec, as the eighth edition of Comiccon attracts thousands of fans of cosplay who come together to embody their favorite character from popular culture.

Passers-by walking on Parliament Hill on Saturday thought they had been fooled when they saw Vikings, ghost hunters, stormtroopers and orcs crossing the street.
It must be said that the costumes of some characters who went to the Convention Center were larger than life.
“It’s three to four months of almost full-time work. You must really like it! laughs Cloé Raymond, perched on stilts in his handmade armor straight out of the video game. Fallout.
Costume making is also a family affair for Krystelle Boire and Julie Lévesque, and this first edition of Comiccon without sanitary measures since 2019 is a relief for the mother-daughter duo.
“It’s much easier, without the masks, to see the wonder of people in front of beautiful costumes. It feels good,” says Ms. Boire, who wore the outfit of a character from the universe of Genshin Impact.
Visitors from all over
Participants came from all over Quebec, and even from outside, to enjoy the event.
While some came to attend the various conferences and activities offered, it was above all the desire to interact with people who shared the same passion as them that motivated them to come.
“Saturday tickets have gone in time to say it, it makes no sense. It is certain that we will exceed the 10,000 participants of last year”, underlines the spokesperson for the event, Jason Rockman.
According to him, what differentiates Quebec from the other Comiccon in the province is the quality of the cosplayers – or “costumadiers” – found there.
“We make lots of friends, we meet people who have the same interests, it’s really fun! explains Catherine Marcheterre, who came directly from Carleton-sur-Mer.
