About fifty French women artists have filmed themselves cutting strands of their hair to support Iranian women who have been protesting for more than two weeks. Demonstrations which follow the death of Mahsa Amini, killed by the police for having worn her veil incorrectly.

On social networks, Juliette Binoche, Isabelle Adjani, Isabelle Huppert, Jane Birkin, Charlotte Gainsbourg and singer Angèle filmed themselves cutting a lock of hair. In all, 50 female artists participated in this event, in support of Iranian women. They have been demonstrating for nearly three weeks, risking their lives, to demand the right to wear the veil or not.

“It’s a video to tell the freedom of women, to wear it, whether they want it or not and to this ignominy that it is to say that a lock that exceeds can be the cause of death”explains actress Isabelle Carré. This is why they symbolically cut a lock of hair. Around the world, a Swedish MEP made this gesture in the European Parliament. In an Italian museum, women are invited to cut one of their locks in solidarity
