It is a symbol that is in flames, Saturday, October 8. The Crimean Bridge, which connects this peninsula to Russia, was set on fire by the explosion of a truck bomb. For Moscow, which has launched an investigation, this infrastructure is essential, it is through it that military equipment is routed.
The extent of the damage is commensurate with this huge Crimean bridge. On the lower part, two of the four traffic lanes are destroyed. On the railway track at the top, a train is on fire. A little after 6 a.m., Saturday, October 8, a few vehicles were circulating when a violent explosion occurred. The number of victims is unknown. A few minutes away, a motorist filming escaped the worst. A little further on, another witness films the causeway collapsed into the sea.
Very quickly, the Russian authorities evoke an attack and open a criminal investigation. In 2014, Crimea, Ukrainian territory, was annexed by Moscow. Vladimir Putin immediately launched the construction of a strategic bridge to connect the peninsula to Russia. In 2018, it was he who inaugurated the 18 kilometer long work with great fanfare, while the international community has never recognized the annexation of Crimea. Since February, the bridge has allowed the transport of Russian military equipment as close as possible to the southern front of Ukraine. Crimea has already been the target of Ukrainian attacks, notably last August, when an ammunition depot exploded, destroying part of the Russian military base at Jankoy.
