Should we fear the contagion of anger in Martinique? After Guadeloupe, the neighboring island experienced new tensions during the night of Tuesday 23 to Wednesday 24 November. Yet the inter-union had called for the blockades to be lifted to prevent the escalation of violence.

In the darkness of the night from Tuesday 23 to Wednesday 24 November, the shots again resonated In Martinique. Detonation of grenades against throwing projectiles: the face-to-face meetings were tense between the young demonstrators and the police. On franceinfo, Wednesday morning, the Minister of the Economy, Bruno Le Maire, reacted strongly: “The return to order is the absolute priority. These blockades, looting, violence are unacceptable.”

Another night marked by violence as the inter-union had asked for the dams to be lifted. A call for calm but not the end of the strike, the demonstrators still being opposed to the health pass and the vaccination obligation. “Everyone is free to make their own choices“, believes one of them. Martinique has been shaken by this movement of mobilization for three days. From north to south of the island, roadblocks remain erected and hundreds of vehicles continue to be trapped.
