The Phillies shone against a usually tough bullpen. Jean Segura had one of the highlights when he hit a single with the bases loaded, turning a 2-1 deficit into a 3-2 lead.

In the regular season, St. Louis went 74-3 when leading after eight innings.

The Cards’ Juan Yepez hit a two-run pinch-pitch homer in the seventh, but the Phillies manhandled Ryan Helsley in the ninth.

JT Realmuto hit a single before walks to Bryce Harper and Nick Castellanos.

The star stopper then reached Alec Bohm, then Andre Pallante allowed Segura’s hit.

Edmundo Sosa was a go-getter going to home plate on a ground ball from Bryson Stott.

Brandon Marsh added a one-run single, then Kyle Schwarber completed the push with a sacrifice fly.

The formal throw was made by the legendary Ozzie Smith.

A win on Saturday would allow the Phillies to play in the second round against the Atlanta Braves, defending World Series champions.

The starting pitchers will be Aaron Nola and Miles Mikolas, beginning at 8:37 p.m.
