The Sûreté du Québec (SQ) is investigating the suspicious origin of a fire in an apartment building overnight from Thursday to Friday in Sainte-Germaine-Boulé, in Abitibi-Témiscamingue.
Firefighters were alerted to a fire that broke out around 11:15 p.m. in one of the apartments in the residential building located on rue de la Montagne.
The residents were evacuated, but no one was injured, said SQ spokeswoman Hélène St-Pierre, adding that neighboring residences were evacuated as a precaution.
The Red Cross quickly deployed its teams to take care of the victims, while car traffic was disrupted during the intervention of the firefighters.
“An investigation has been opened to determine the cause and to clarify the circumstances surrounding the event,” said the SQ.
