The Chilleurs-aux-Bois SPA, in the Loiret, which welcomes 80 dogs and around forty cats, is full all year round. “Abandonment has no season. We have requests every day, even several a day and we even have to work by waiting list”, laments Cécile Godeau, team leader. So, to encourage adoptions and be able to welcome new abandoned animals, the refuge is organizing open days on Saturday 8 and Sunday 9 October, as in all SPAs in France.
Entertainment for all ages will be offered, such as a race with the dogs. The idea is to create moments of conviviality and sociability between the dogs and their future owners. Dachshunds, American staffs, a border coli or a Dutch shepherd cross are waiting to be adopted, in the largest refuge in Loiret.
Research well before adopting
But the adoption must be considered to avoid casting errors and the return of the dogs to the SPA after a few weeks of adoption. “We ask people questions to find out if the dog or dogs they have seen can possibly correspond to them”, says Cécile Godeau. The team leader also advises to be well informed about the breed of dog. “It is not because he has a physique that we like, that the dog corresponds to us”, she warns. After a walk with the dog “to see if the feeling passes”, it is possible to adopt them or “reserve” them, the time to organize to welcome them.
Count 250 euros to adopt a dog, 300 euros for a puppy and 150 euros for a cat. You will also be asked for an identity card and proof of residence.
