The plates of history – 10 stories from October: a podcast to listen to – France Bleu

What did our ancestors eat, from the Middle Ages to the 80s? How and by what “accident” of History did the ingredients, dishes and recipes come down to us? What event led to their appearance?

In this series from the Atelier de Création du Grand Ouest, journalist Nathalie Helal tells you by what chain of circumstances, from the Middle Ages to the 80s, dishes and recipes have taken root on our plates. From one era to another and from one product to an emblematic dish, discover the “daily bread” of the French, all social classes combined. Because cooking is much more than recipes: it allows us to approach the “great History”, from a tasty angle, and to satisfy our curiosity as much as our appetite!
Over the course of 10 3-minute episodes, the anecdotes presented in “The Plates of History” are as many opportunities to put an end to clichés, to show the evolution of access to food and that of variety of recipes that make up our gastronomic heritage.
