Fuel thefts targeting tractors and tanks on farms, intentional damage to materials and equipment as last July
tags sometimes hostile to their activities… Farmers in Vienne are increasingly the target of what the National Federation of Farmers calls an “agribashing”. This Thursday, the prefect of Vienne launched an observatory in Poitiers on this phenomenon, up from last year in the department.
Steep increase in flights
Between 2021 and 2022, the Vienne prefecture records a 51% increase in damage to agriculture. At the end of August, there were 107 farm thefts. Attacks of different natures therefore but this summer, damage particularly targeted equipment related to irrigation. They have doubled in just one year, directly targeting reels or electrical boxes in the fields.
Another topical phenomenon with the rise in energy costs, the authorities are recording a 40% increase in fuel thefts in Vienne. A protocol signed with the gendarmes of the department has been in place since 2015, it also allows direct exchanges with farmers to warn them of risks, but the prefect has indicated that this protocol will be updated.
