As a reminder, Charles III had automatically become king after the death of his mother before obtaining this status officially during a meeting of the Accession Council at St. James’s Palace in London on September 10. After the declaration proclaiming him was read, the Council sang in chorus the British anthem “God Save the King”, which had hitherto been titled “God Save the Queen”, before moving into the throne room of the palace to let the king take an oath.
An angry king?
“My mother’s reign was unmatched in its duration, dedication and devotion“, he had declared, referring then to an “irreparable loss”.I am deeply aware of this great heritage, of the duties and heavy responsibilities of sovereignty, which are now transmitted to me“, he added, while saluting “constant supportof his wife, Queen Consort Camilla, who was present for the event alongside new heir to the throne Prince William and new Prime Minister Liz Truss.
Charles III, who was seen very moved when he left Balmoral Castle after the death of Elizabeth II, enjoys less notoriety compared to that of his mother. He has also been the subject of much criticism since becoming king, including after he lost his temper over a pen. But due to the attachment of the British for their kings/queens for centuries, the coronation of King Charles III will of course be attended by millions of English people and people located in the four corners of the globe. It is already highly anticipated.
