Quebec reports an increase of 23 hospitalizations on Wednesday. The 1,780 people currently hospitalized represent an increase of 10% over one week. In intensive care, the 34 patients represent a stable trend over one week.

The number of people in hospital is expected to continue to rise over the next few days, with the number of admissions outpacing discharges. On average, there are 23 more patients every day.

The number of workers absent due to the pandemic is stable. They were 3927 Wednesday to have to isolate themselves.

The 1083 new cases reported on Wednesday bring the daily average to 876. The trend is thus up 6% over one week. These numbers likely reflect only a portion of total infections, due to limited access to PCR testing.

In addition to the cases detected by PCR tests, 385 people have also reported in recent days having obtained a positive result from a rapid test. Self-reported cases, which are not included in daily reported cases, have increased by 24% over the past week.

With no new deaths reported on Wednesday, the seven-day daily average currently stands at eight.

Vaccination slows down

The pace of the vaccination campaign is slowing down. Quebec administers an average of 18,300 doses per day, which is 7% less than last week.

The rhythm of the campaign does not make it possible to increase the vaccination coverage. Taking into account the fact that Public Health recommends getting vaccinated after five months, only 20.2% of Quebecers have their vaccination up to date.
