Businesses are not affected by the price shield that applies to individuals. For them, rising energy prices are problematic.

A baker in Metz (Moselle) has decided to increase the price of his baguette by five cents, since his electricity bill has doubled in a few weeks. “Over the year, we consume around 55,000 euros, across all three stores. +88,000 euros is something absolutely huge”, testifies Michel Dudot, baker. Catering, but also industry and production players, are suffering from soaring energy prices.

On Wednesday, October 5, the Ministry of the Economy summoned electricity suppliers to ask them to moderate the rate increase. “We are just saying that energy companies cannot unduly benefit from an annuity linked to crazy prices”, explains Bruno le Maire, Minister of the Economy, Finance and Industrial and Digital Sovereignty. Electricity sellers have signed a charter on better information on tariffs and support for customers, but it is not very restrictive.
