During the first session of questions to the government of the new parliamentary session on Tuesday, MP Aurore Bergé denounced domestic violence by pointing, in a barely veiled allusion, to LFI MP Adrien Quatennens.
Aurore Bergé, the patroness of the Renaissance deputies, denounced, Tuesday, October 4, in a question to the government, the “men who hit their wives”. Citing examples of women victims of violence by their partner and for whom “it all started with a slap”, the MP for Yvelines said: “As soon as you receive a slap, go file a complaint. Do not be afraid.”
“For several weeks, we have praised the virtue of those who recognize acts of domestic violence, we hear those who speak of their affection for a man who hits his wife”, she then scolded. This clear allusion to LFI deputy Adrien Quatennens, who admitted having slapped his wife, and who is the subject of a complaint filed by the latter, provoked a strong reaction on the benches of the deputies of Nupes.
If the deputies of the majority applauded, the intervention of Aurore Bergé made the LFI deputies rumble, some loudly calling out to her. Ecologist Sandrine Rousseau responded with a feminist sign, a triangle formed with her hands. Trying to contain this bronca, the president of the Assembly, Yaël Braun-Pivet, imposed a call to order with entry in the minutes to the deputy LFI Danièle Obono. This sanction deprives her of a quarter of her parliamentary allowance for one month.
Danièle Obono explained at the exit of the hemicycle that she demanded “a billion euros” in the budget allocated to the fight against violence against women, a demand of several associations. She denounced a “extremely indecent manipulation of Madame Bergé” and “an absolutely pathetic circus”. LFI deputies for their part recalled the facts alleged against Renaissance MP Damien Abad or Interior Minister Gérald Darmanin.
