The New York Islanders settled the Mathew Barzal case on Tuesday by signing him to an eight-year contract.

The value of the deal was not disclosed by the organization.
However, according to Sportsnet network hockey expert Elliotte Friedman, the main interested party will earn an average of $9.15 million annually.
The 25-year-old will also earn $7 million next season, the last of his previous three-year contract.
Consequently, he will avoid restricted free agent status in the summer of 2023.
Barzal tallied 15 goals and 44 assists for 59 points in 73 games during the last campaign that ended in a playoff exclusion for his team.
Since the start of his National League career, he has amassed 311 points in 362 outings, winning the Calder Trophy in 2017-18. In his first full year on the Bettman circuit, he had 63 assists in 82 games.
