The 20 Hours of France 2 returns, in its column “Cartes sur table”, on the differences between the current revolt in Iran and those which took place before.

In Iran, students at the main scientific university were asked to stay at home on Monday (October 3rd). The day before, clashes had opposed the police to 200 young people massed in front of their establishment in Tehran (Iran) to protest against the death of Mahsa Amini. The protest does not weaken. However, other major insurgencies have ended up being put down in Iranian history. This one is very different, because for the first time, the demonstrations affect the whole country, from rich neighborhoods to poor suburbs.

Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei is directly targeted. The demonstrators dare to call him a dictator. To counter them, he uses repression. It is moreover the weapon that has always been used by the Iranian authorities to crush revolts. This was the case during the movements against inflation in 2017 and 2019. There were hundreds of deaths and arrests, without any social progress.
