At a time of the climate crisis, fashion will have to reinvent itself in order to get rid of its disconnected image from reality. Recent parades have caused an outcry given the climate crisis.
A dress sprayed on Bella’s bare skin Hadidone of the most famous models in the world. Fibers appear and solidify. A liquid fabric is fashion’s challenge to science. A dress has just been born in front of the lens of mobile phones and under the expert and, to say the least, innovative hand of designers Sébastien Meyer and Arnaud Vaillant. It happens at the very end of the Coperni fashion show in the Salle des Textiles of the Museum of Arts and Crafts in Paris. The event is going viral on social media.
Another challenge that fashion must take up is the environmental one. Always in search of a bang, fashion refuses nothing like parades in a stadium in front of 8,000 people to Balmain or else within the Wall Street stock exchange for Balenciaga.
But this quest for the sensational sometimes pushes the fashion houses to cross the limits. In July 2022, Yves Saint-Laurent parades in the Moroccan desert. Private jets, air conditioning and lighting, everything comes together to trigger an outcry on the net. It is this lack of ecology that is reproached to luxury houses. Behind this search for sensationalism, the economic stakes are enormous. Paris Fashion weekend alone generates 10 billion euros in commercial transactions each year.
