“The CAQ does not need your vote”, says St-Pierre Plamondon

(Gaspé) PQ leader Paul St-Pierre Plamondon delivers a final plea to convince Quebeckers who appreciated his campaign to send members of the Parti Québécois to the National Assembly: the Coalition avenir Québec will form a majority government and will not you don’t need your support, but the sovereigntist movement does.

“The CAQ does not need your vote, but the independence and the defense of French and the defense of our regions, yes”, he launched in front of a hundred activists gathered in Gaspé.

Mr. St-Pierre Plamondon made an aerial blitz during this last day of the campaign. In the morning, he is in Gaspé to support outgoing MP and candidate Méganne Perry Mélançon. He will then go to Sept-Îles and Saguenay, two other PQ castles. He wants “that we have strong opposition, that we have voices that speak, especially in defense of our regions,” he said.

In a Léger poll published Sunday by Quebecor media, the Parti Québécois seemed to be leveling off in voting intentions, under the mark of its historic defeat in 2018 (17% and 10 deputies). But Mr. St-Pierre Plamondon sees a glimmer of hope: Quebecers liked his performance. “Among Francophones, more than 40% of people think that the best campaign is the Parti Québécois campaign,” he said.

On the ground, for example, outgoing MP Méganne Perry Mélançon claims to have felt a “PSPP effect” following the first debate which gave a second wind to her campaign.

First choice

“When I say to people make the PQ your first choice, it’s simply to say if you like our ideas, if you like our campaign, our way of doing politics, vote accordingly, and vote for it. there are strong oppositions,” he said.

“I challenge the population. What we see is the possibility of a CAQ which will be able to govern without opposition or almost in front of it, ”he warns. And the only party that can convince people to do more for the French language is the Parti Québécois, he added.

“I am quite optimistic, because all the indicators show a felt appreciation for our campaign and I believe that in the circumstances, knowing that the CAQ is very likely to be the government, there are people who will encourage us and ensure that we have that space,” said Mr. St-Pierre Plamondon.
