(Quebec) The leader of the Conservative Party of Quebec, Éric Duhaime, is campaigning against the tramway project in the Capitale-Nationale. The city’s mayor Bruno Marchand has defended him since his election in the fall of 2021. Despite these differences, the meeting between the two politicians on Friday went well.

“The tone was much more cordial today,” revealed Éric Duhaime as he left Quebec City Hall. Information confirmed by Mayor Marchand’s office.
The two men had however attacked by media interposed at the beginning of the Quebec election campaign. The Conservative leader accused Bruno Marchand of having “fiddled” with the figures of a survey on the tramway. The mayor then replied that he was lying.
“There is room for interpretation on both sides with regard to the figures, explained Mr. Duhaime. Everyone also agrees that if there had been two options [dans le sondage], it’s much easier to know who is telling the truth. »
The sounding carried out by the firm Segma for the daily newspaper Le Soleil and the radio station FM93 indicated that 48% of residents of the Old Capital are in favor of the tramway in its current form or in another form. Of this number, 15% would like the project to take another form and 43% are against it. It was compiled from telephone interviews with 799 people between August 29 and September 3 in the Quebec region. The maximum margin of error is 3.5%.
The leader of the PCQ and the mayor of Quebec also discussed sports infrastructure and the third link between the two shores of the St. Lawrence River, two themes dear to the Conservatives. They also discussed the issues of homelessness, housing and the growth of the city.
Éric Duhaime said he imagines “that people understand” that both he and Bruno Marchand are aware that they risk representing the same population and therefore that they want to have good communication and make sure “to be able to work harmoniously after October 3 if voters choose the Conservative Party of Quebec” in the Capitale-Nationale region.
