“If the state lowers our endowments, […] taxes will be raised”

Montbrison and Forez are in the spotlight this weekend, with the 60th Fourme and Côtes du Forez days. Two days of entertainment in the capital of Forez. On this occasion the mayor of Montbrison and president of Loire Forez Agglo was our guest this Friday in the morning of France Bleu Saint-Étienne Loire.

Montbrison faced with astronomical heating bills

No gossip on the issue of energy bills at the town hall and the agglo: Christophe Bazile says he is facing a real “price surge.” The two communities are in mode “crisis,” expecting electricity bills five times higher than usual, and gas bills three times higher than usual.

You will have to save money no matter what: “Of course we are going to turn off, we are going to lower the temperatures, we may be closing public facilities. We are in a crisis situation. For example in Montbrison, it is the annex town hall that will probably close. The heating will surely be at its lowest in the gymnasiums, with instructions to set the thermostats to a maximum of 12 degrees.

Tax hikes in sight if prices continue to rise

It is a commitment of Christophe Bazile since he was elected, no increase in local taxes. But the city councilor may no longer have a choice, and he says it: if the State does not at least maintain its allocations to local authorities, the question of increasing local taxes for Montbrison residents could arise next year.
