Since the death of the young Mahsa Amini, arrested for an outfit that did not respect the strict dress code of the Islamic Republic, the demonstrations follow one another in Iran, repressed in blood. One of our teams followed the uprisings in Tehran.

“Special Envoy” was able to travel to Iran to follow the protesters who have been rising since the death of the young Mahsa Amini, arrested for an outfit that did not respect the strict dress code of the Islamic Republic. Since then, she has become an icon and the demonstrations follow one another, repressed in blood. An unprecedented dive into the heart of the fight for the freedom of Iranian women, and an exceptional document on the revolt in Tehran.

The police are trying to sow terror

A 35-year-old Iranian activist took the risk of taking a team of “Special Envoy” with her to a Tehran under tension. Surveillance is everywhere, the regime’s guards crisscross the city. That evening, the Iranians preferred to demonstrate from their cars for fear of being identified and arrested. Men on motorbikes, police or militiamen sometimes in civilian clothes, make arrests, a little randomly it seems… And to carry out the repression behind closed doors, the authorities are gradually cutting off the internet and social networks.

According to various NGOs, the repression carried out by the Iranian government has already caused 76 deaths, including 6 women and 4 children, 1,200 people have been arrested, and at least 17 journalists have been arrested.

A Violaine Vermot-Gaud, Alice Gauvin, Harold Horoks, Marielle Krouk report broadcast in “Special Envoy” on September 29, 2022.
