Only three days after its release, Adele’s last offering, 30, set the record for best-selling album of the year in the United States, the magazine reported Billboard.
With 500,000 copies sold as of Monday, Adele has dethroned Taylor Swift and his opus Evermore (462,000 copies sold in 2021) at the peak of annual album sales. At the same time, 30 recorded the biggest sales week of the year, surpassing Red (Taylor’s Version), which sold 369,000 copies in its first week.
Released last Friday, 30 is the highly anticipated return of the British singer, after a silence of six years.
The first extract unveiled in October, Easy on me, garnered 24 million plays in the UK during its week of release, a record so far held by Ariana Grande and her song 7 Rings.
