The transport sector is facing a labor shortage. The shortage of drivers is forcing some cities and regions to reduce public transport traffic. In Ile-de-France, 26% RATP bus connections are no longer provided.

Even rushing, even jostling, it is impossible for many travelers to get on a bus in the Paris region, Wednesday, September 28. Users are annoyed, and changing their route does not change anything: you always have to wait. “I’m angry because I pay 75 euros every month, and I can’t get on a bus”testifies a traveler. Almost everywhere in Île-de-France, there is a wait to take the buses of certain lines.

In Paris, a quarter of the promised bus offer is not guaranteed, because there is a shortage of 800 drivers. To Lyons (Rhone) also, 150 driver positions are to be filled, and traffic has dropped by 4%. Incivility, split hours: Faced with the lack of attractiveness of the profession, the Lyon transport company relies on recruitment by cooptation. According public transport union, France lacks 3,000 to 4,000 bus drivers.
