The crash happened around 8:30 a.m. Wednesday morning. A cyclist, a man in his fifties according to firefighters, was hit by a motorist on departmental road 1029. The accident occurred when overtaking, near the town of Proyart. According to the first testimonies collected by the gendarmes, the motorist activated the flashing light before overtaking the victim, at the level of the intersection with departmental 329. As the car passed, the cyclist then swerved.
Despite attempts to revive the victim, the victim was declared dead by the emergency services.. The driver of the car tested negative. The gendarmerie investigation, which must determine the precise circumstances of the accident and the potential responsibilities, is entrusted to the Chaulnes brigade.
