“The United States stands with the people of Ukraine and remains committed to supporting a democratic, independent, and sovereign Ukraine,” he added in a statement.

This new tranche, which brings total US assistance to Ukrainian law enforcement to $645 million, comes on top of the billions of dollars in military aid that Washington has already released for Kyiv.

It comes as Ukrainian authorities announced the discovery of hundreds of graves in a forest near the town of Izium, recently taken over by Ukrainian forces. The bodies of 447 people, mostly civilians, were discovered, some showing signs of torture.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky spoke to the UN General Assembly last week about the discovery of two new mass graves in areas liberated from Russian occupation and demanded that Russia be “punished”.
