The Canadian Armed Forces began deploying their troops on Monday to the three Maritime provinces hard hit by Hurricane Fiona.

The soldiers are deployed in Nova Scotia, Newfoundland and Labrador and Prince Edward Island to help with the relief and clean-up operations after the storm hit.
“We are all committed to helping the residents of Atlantic Canada in the aftermath of Hurricane Fiona,” said the country’s Chief of Defense Staff, General Wayne Eyre on Twitter. [Des] local reservists, aircraft, ships are on standby and assisting.”
A hundred soldiers were expected in Prince Edward Island, greatly affected by the passage of the storm with almost half of the population still without electricity in the evening.
“We sent around 100 people per province to help out. That could change quickly if we feel the need. The Canadian Armed Forces are ready to deploy more people,” said Minister of National Defense Anita Anand.
The military has already helped clean up parts of Prince Edward Island as Hydro Ottawa crews traveled to Nova Scotia to restore power to some 400,000 homes without power. .
