Five police officers from the Bayonne police station (Pyrénées-Atlantiques) were injured, including three hospitalized, when checking a vehicle which was taking part in an urban rodeo on the night of Saturday to Sunday September 25 in Anglet, reports France Bleu Pays Basque de police sources. The facts took place around 3 a.m., in a residence on avenue de Maignon, between Anglet and Bayonne.
The driver refused to comply, he restarted and drove into one of the officials who used his weapon, before hitting a second police vehicle while continuing his race.
The driver then abandoned his car, stolen and badly damaged, before fleeing on foot without the police being able to find him. He is still wanted. The suspect was participating in the rodeo with another vehicle which disappeared before law enforcement arrived.
“It’s starting to be enough”, alert Laurent Saisset, Basque coast departmental secretary of the Alliance union contacted by France Bleu Pays Basque this Sunday who deplores a growing number of refusals to comply in the Basque Country.
The Bayonne public prosecutor’s office, seized, entrusted the investigation to the Bayonne judicial police.
