Which means that at 7 p.m., barely half of Italians had gone to the polls”, explains Raphaële Schapira, France Télévisions correspondent in Rome. According to her, the night is coming “very long”since it will be necessary to wait until 2h or 3h in the morning before having reliable results.
“This deadline could be extended if there is no clear majority that emerges. The results will be known tomorrow, but we will have to wait many more weeks to know the government, probably not before mid-October”she continues. “It’s the classic institutional path here. But for that, the winners must also benefit from a comfortable majority. That was not the case in 2018 during the previous elections and it was necessary to wait three months before to know the composition of the government”concludes Raphaële Schapira.
